For more than three-quarters of a century, Hodgson Russ’s Torts, Insurance & Products Liability (TIPL) team has successfully handled major litigation matters on behalf of corporations, insurers, and individuals.
The TIPL team attorneys have significant experience in these areas:
Hodgson Russ’s TIPL attorneys have contributed substantially to the development of beneficial New York State case law in each of the areas above. In addition, our practitioners have extensive state and federal trial and appellate practice experience in high exposure and complex litigation matters.
Hodgson Russ has been awarded a prestigious Best Law Firms Metropolitan Tier 1 ranking by Best Lawyers/U.S. News & World Report in the Product Liability Litigation—Defendants category.
Time and again, insureds we’ve defended in the past ask their insurers to appoint TIPL team members to represent them in new matters. Moreover, we are consistently selected by self-insureds, corporations, lawyers, accountants, and other professionals to defend them in various liability exposure claims.
The TIPL team has a long record of notable successes in a broad range of products liability, drug, medical device, and toxic tort cases, including long-term exposure cases. Each of the team’s members has accumulated a wealth of knowledge and experience in this fast-paced, ever-changing area of law. For example, TIPL team leader Hugh M. Russ, III represented a large insurance company in the lengthy and complicated Love Canal litigation. TIPL partner Michael E. Maxwell successfully represented a number of homeowners and landowners in lead paint exposure cases and railroads in long-term exposure cases. The TIPL team also enjoys substantial experience with statute of limitations, product identification, causation, and date of occurrence issues.
Hodgson Russ’s TIPL team has blazed a significant trail in connection with fire and arson insurance work. Playing an active role in shaping the law to more accurately reflect the realities of modern-day fire losses, we have successfully protected a number of insurance companies in fraud cases, saving clients millions of dollars.
